101 in 1001: Day 60 Update

In July, I wrote about my commitment to 101 in 1001. Today is day 60/1001. I have revisited my list at DayZero a few times now to update my progress, including adding and removing goals once I realise that they will or won’t work out over the course of time. Cheating? No. Realistic. Yes.

Realistic goals = success

When I first started the list, I had listed at number 3 that I wanted to enter and compete in a pin-up contest. if you go to the list now, you will see that it’s gone. Why? I have a chronic lumbar dysfunction (bad back) that means I can’t always do physical activities that I would really like to do. After watching the first Miss Camperdown Cruise competition on YouTube and seeing the way in which the entrants were moving and posing, I knew that it was unfair and unrealistic to expect my back to be able to perform on cue. As such, it has been removed from the list.

Another thing that I removed from the list was number 98 (Write a love letter to The Mister for our wedding day). I thought I would have the time but I plumb ran out. Turns out there was a lot more to do than we had planned in that final month. That doesn’t mean my vows weren’t amazing though, and you will hear about them at a later stage (once I have pictures!!).

101 – 2 = 99

With the removal of two goals means the addition of two goals. These two goals took quite a long time to decide upon, unlike my original 101. The new goals are:

100. Lose the weight I’ve put back on in the last 12 – 18 months (9kg)
101. Have at least one creative therapy session per week, on average

If number 100 is confusing you, I don’t blame you. I know that I say that I am happy as the person I am, and that is the truth. I am not happy with the weight gain and not being able to fit into my gorgeous clothes. It’s not just about fitting into my clothes though, it’s about getting back to a lifestyle that is healthier for both myself and The Mister. We became quite lazy during the busy time leading up to our wedding, not to mention the fact it was winter, but the time is there now to use wisely. We can plan healthier meals, we can plan to spend our time for recreational/health purposes, and we can just be better organised.

To achieve number 100, number 101 is essential. For me, being creative is therapy. I completely switch off from everything around me and tune into whatever creative project that is on my plate. I forget how blissful it is to be in a state of creation until I am in the moment. I need to make time for that moment every week.

Sixty days in, I have completed 5/1001. This list includes the changes mentioned above.
I’ve also decided to change monthly goals, i.e. read one book per month, to averages. Some months I might not pick up a book or go to the movies, but over the course of the 1001 days – which equates to 33 months – I hope to have read at least 33 books, seen 33 films at the cinema, and so on and so forth.

Although it doesn’t look like I’ve achieved much in 60 days, I’m happy with what I have achieved. Five, in my eyes, is better than none. Some of the goals are ongoing over the course of the 1001 days, so they are marked as In Progress (12 tasks in progress is pretty good, I think!). That’s the beauty of the online DayZero list: I can keep a real-time version going at all times, changing the status of goals, updating with notes and pictures; just perfect for keeping track of those In Progress goals.
I must admit that I never got around to printing my list out and having visual cues around the house but I still have time to do that, 941 days actually!
