My Month In Pictures: October 2015

During the second week of October, I realised I didn’t round up September’s Month In Pictures. Time just plumb got away from me. Never fear though, I’m here with the October edition which I’m afraid is rather boring, at least from a social media viewpoint, I wasn’t particularly active on Instagram!

Every Day Vintage Style: Why You Need Netflix

Two weeks ago, The Mister and I did something I vowed we wouldn’t: We got Netflix. When Netflix hit our shores in March, neither The Mister nor I saw the need nor did we have the desire to get Netflix. Call us silly or call us intuitive – we dodged a bullet with all the intarwebs slow-down that happened when everyone in Australia joined! – but we finally decided that we wanted to have more options at our fingertips and just like that, at the family dinner table whilst celebrating Rosh Hashanah, we subscribed to the joyous world of Netflix.

Soda Shop Sweets: What To Wear Wednesday #13

Phew, it’s been a long time between drinks. The last time I did a What To Wear Wednesday was in June. New season finds are popping up everywhere, so I thought it was high time I got back on the bandwagon and delivered you some fun, gorgeous, vintage inspired springtime fashion.

Polyvore notified me that someone I follow on Twitter recently joined Polyvore. That someone was Lindy Bop. Once upon a time I would look at Lindy Bop’s site at least once a week but I’ve had to put the stop on that as it was far too dangerous. Now that they’re on Polyvore, it’s much easier to create What To Wear Wednesday outfits for you, and that is exactly what I’ve done today.

Winter Wardrobe: What To Wear Wednesday #11

Wednesday already, and boy is it getting cold here in Melbourne! You may have noticed that the last What To Wear Wednesday was two weeks ago.  To fit in with my new schedule and the commencement of Alexie RicRac Sustainable Vintage Wares on 4 June, What To Wear Wednesday styled outfits will be coming to you fortnightly as of today. What does this mean for you, the reader? It means that style posts will be available every second Wednesday, and they’ll be just as awesome as ever, curated from my favourite vintage inspired finds across the web.

Winter Days

The Antarctic chill has hit us early and with great force, so this week my mind turned to trousers and long sleeves. Darker clothes tend to creep into our winter wardrobes, so I’ve tried to warm them up with a nice blue shirt and red accessories.

1. Blazer | 2. Blouse | 3. Trousers | 4. Hair Flowers | 5. Brooch | 6. Shoes

A Royal Night Out: Friday Finds #6

Victory in Europe (V.E.) Day, 8 May 1945: The Nazis Surrender. War is over, and Europe is celebrating. Two excited young ladies plead with their parents to celebrate on the streets of London with the rest of the city. Their father finally agrees: “Let them go, this might be the only chance she gets.”

Seventy years later, to mark the release of ‘A Royal Night Out’, today’s Friday Finds recreates the costumes similar to those worn by Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret as seen in the ‘A Royal Night Out’ preview.

What To Wear Wednesday #8

How lucky are my parents? Both their children getting married in the same year, and eighteen weeks apart! I’m really looking forward to celebrating my brother and his future wife’s wedding. I’d already gone through two wardrobe changes before Christmas too with regard to what I’d wear to their wedding. You might remember me fawning over Lindy Bop’s Cindy in Sage in December. Well, I ordered it in late December/early January, making it a third outfit change before my brother’s wedding was remotely close. I didn’t pay proper attention to the sizing and measurements though so when it arrived and I couldn’t do it up (I ordered the same size as the Audrey dress I have but Cindy and Audrey are not the same!), I had to send it back and get the next size up.
Lesson of the day: read the measurements of each dress carefully, and make sure you triple check your own measurements!

What To Wear Wednesday #7

It might be the end of summer in just four days with daylight savings ending (hurry up already October so I can have more sunshine!), but when I saw this dress come up on a Facebook buy/swap/sell group that I am a part of I simply could not pass it up. I only tried it on last week in store but because of the fact that I don’t like to buy clothes new (unless I absolutely cannot get it any other way), I didn’t part with the cash.
Styling outfits is a little hard to do with thrifted clothes and accessories though, so I have to show you new items, but perhaps you just use them purely for inspiration, like I do.

What to Wear Wednesday #6

Better late than never, right? This week’s What to Wear Wednesday styled outfit is late out of the gates due to extenuating circumstances but I couldn’t not deliver. My sincere apologies for the tardiness.

At TAFE, Wednesday is all about learning how to manage your business finances so of course my head is in a spin trying to absorb all that is taught to us. It also made me think about what I’d wear to an all-important finance meeting. I thought I’d go for strong yet feminine: dark blues with hints of pastel pink and pastel blue.

What To Wear Wednesday #5

Next Tuesday is St Patrick’s Day, and this week’s What To Wear Wednesday is brought to you by the beautiful greens of the holiday celebrated by the emerald isle. St Patrick’s Day celebrates the introduction of Christianity to Ireland. I’m not sure how many people are actually aware of that though! Even though I’ve Irish blood in me (my mother’s side), I’ve never celebrated St Patrick’s Day but I do try to wear a few green things on the day. I’d love to dress head to toe this year, and boy do I wish I had these gorgeous pieces in my wardrobe.

1. Brooch | 2. Bag | 3. Faux Fur Trim Cardigan | 4. Belt | 5. Skirt | 6. Earrings | 7. Camisole | 8. Shoes | 9. Tights

I built this outfit around the skirt. Its yellows and greens lend itself to being able to use different shades of green all over. I have to admit I was saddened that I couldn’t find any four leaf clover items to style. Maybe next year?

Do you celebrate St Patrick’s Day in any way?
