Ugly Christmas Jumpers: What To Wear Wednesday #14

Every Christmas a little part of me wishes for a cooler climate, a few inches of snow under foot, snuggling in front of an open fire with a good mug of hot chocolate, and a White Christmas. Being in Australia pretty much nullifies all my chances of this happening but it doesn’t stop me wanting to wear an ugly Christmas jumper. You know the kind of jumper I’m talking about: knitted, patterns of snowflakes, reindeer, bells, all that wintry Christmas stuff. Stuff that we don’t experience here in Australia at Christmas.

Here’s a quick round-up of ugly Christmas jumpers – or sweaters – that took my fancy on Polyvore. A mix of his and hers, and something for your special geek.

These ugly Christmas jumpers are all I have ever wanted. I look at eBay from time to time to see if anyone in Australia is selling one. I’d wear it in July to celebrate Christmas in July. Strangely enough, there are two Christmas jumpers for sale on eBay here in Melbourne. What are the odds!? I just searched for Christmas jumper, narrowed my search to used and Australia only.

Which of these is your favourite ugly Christmas jumper? I think mine is probably the cardi, followed closely by the one with the shoulder trim and the Doctor Who jumper.

Soda Shop Sweets: What To Wear Wednesday #13

Phew, it’s been a long time between drinks. The last time I did a What To Wear Wednesday was in June. New season finds are popping up everywhere, so I thought it was high time I got back on the bandwagon and delivered you some fun, gorgeous, vintage inspired springtime fashion.

Polyvore notified me that someone I follow on Twitter recently joined Polyvore. That someone was Lindy Bop. Once upon a time I would look at Lindy Bop’s site at least once a week but I’ve had to put the stop on that as it was far too dangerous. Now that they’re on Polyvore, it’s much easier to create What To Wear Wednesday outfits for you, and that is exactly what I’ve done today.

A Royal Night Out: Friday Finds #6

Victory in Europe (V.E.) Day, 8 May 1945: The Nazis Surrender. War is over, and Europe is celebrating. Two excited young ladies plead with their parents to celebrate on the streets of London with the rest of the city. Their father finally agrees: “Let them go, this might be the only chance she gets.”

Seventy years later, to mark the release of ‘A Royal Night Out’, today’s Friday Finds recreates the costumes similar to those worn by Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret as seen in the ‘A Royal Night Out’ preview.

What To Wear Wednesday #7

It might be the end of summer in just four days with daylight savings ending (hurry up already October so I can have more sunshine!), but when I saw this dress come up on a Facebook buy/swap/sell group that I am a part of I simply could not pass it up. I only tried it on last week in store but because of the fact that I don’t like to buy clothes new (unless I absolutely cannot get it any other way), I didn’t part with the cash.
Styling outfits is a little hard to do with thrifted clothes and accessories though, so I have to show you new items, but perhaps you just use them purely for inspiration, like I do.

Special Edition: Ballarat Beat

A chance click a few weeks ago when looking at my favourite vintage and pin-up Facebook pages alerted me to the fact that the Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival was coming up. I had it in my head that Ballarat Beat was a little closer to Easter. Given that Easter moves every year I don’t know why I had that thought in my head. Never the less, Ballarat Beat was this weekend and we cleared our schedules to go! We stayed with my oldest friend and her partner: Rach and I have been friends for 26 years, we went to kinder and primary school together, and we also worked together in our final year of high school. Spending the weekend with Rach and Andrew was wonderful, all four of us are so busy the last time we saw each other was August 2014. Rach works for Ballarat Regional Tourism, and Ballarat Beat is one of her babies.

Friday Finds #1

I love shopping. I love online shopping. I love finding things that are rare, not from the same mould as others – or if they are it has to have a seriously high dose of what The Mister calls ‘Hollie Flavour’. I love trawling etsy and, while I’m yet to compile an etsy treasury, I do favourite a LOT of beautiful wares. Clothing, accessories, graphics, furniture, home wares, pretty much anything goes. If I love it, I find that heart and make it my dream. Friday Finds is a little bit of everything that I am fawning over that perhaps one day you or I can add to our collections. There’s no hard and fast rule as to where things come from, just that they possess that certain element of Hollie Flavour and of course, a hint of 40s or 50s doesn’t go astray.

Style Icon: Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe: A woman needing no introduction. A woman who, although I admire her greatly, I do not tend to count her as one of my style icons. Why? Simply put, there are so many others who do. Don’t get me wrong, Ms Monroe is incredible, but I’ve never really been a part of the flock, rather ahead or behind.

Home Organisation: Desk Decor

Continuing on from my desk organisation post, I’m currently on the hunt for the perfect desk accessories and decor. I’ve got my planter boxes to work on this week, but I want a few more accessories and decor to make the desk more me. I already know I’ll be doing the decorating on the cheap, so will be scouring op shops and the remainders of the Boxing Day Sales, but for now, I can dream.
